V-Rings

V-rings are one-piece all-rubber seals with V-shaped cross-section. The elasticity of the V-ring ensures that its body is held securely in place against the shaft while shaft rotation forces the soft lip against the counterface, forming a tight seal.

Applications
V-rings are used on shafts and bearings to provide effective seals against water, oils and other media.

V-rings have a wide working range with respect to temperature and mechanical stress. Thanks to their flexible design, V-rings are effective in absorbing vibration and axial displacement.

Advantages
V-rings offer the following advantages:

  • Effective protection against dust and other foreign objects

  • Flexible, self-adjusting seal

  • Ease of fitting

  • Simple design

  • Minimum friction

  • Relatively low priced

  • Dual function – oil thrower ring and seal

Vibration and axial displacement
As V-rings have extremely soft lips and very flexible hinges between lip and body, they are capable of absorbing considerable axial displacement and vibration. V-rings provide effective seals even when the bearing surface is tilted.

Fitting

V-rings are extremely easy to fit. Simply stretch the V-ring slightly and push it onto the shaft. If necessary, lubricating the shaft with oil or grease will facilitate fitting. Large V-rings can be secured in position with a clamping band.

To ensure effective sealing, the bearing surface must be smooth and clean.
