Gaskets for Scrubber Applications
Crucial to Avoid Unexpected Breakdowns
Global power industry makes huge efforts to reduce emissions from large diesel engines. This is necessary to achieve the desired environmental improvements. As specialist in gaskets and sealing solutions, Betech contribute to this important mission.
Several technologies are competing to be the preferred solution. Scrubbers seem to have become the preferred de facto technology. Right now, there is a strong demand for scrubbers in new build and especially for retrofit. Scrubbers are being installed land based – e.g. in power plants – and offshore in ships and ferries.
Need for reduction of emissions is the main driver. Removal of particulates and other pollutants from the outlet gas are important advantages, too.
The wet scrubber, washing the flue gas with water, is the most applied technology. Other pollution reducing methods embraced by the scrubber terminology are catalytic oxidation, integrated exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and injection of alkaline substances.
Whatever the scrubber principle, several factors make the choice of gaskets to critical decisions. Pay particular attention to these key success factors:
